FAQ'S

FAQ'S

Below we answer some of our most commonly asked questions by our candidates!

I’m thinking about making a move—where do I begin?

Start by thinking where you are in your career now and where you would like to be in the future. Once you’ve thought about that, we can

help you to set clear goals so you can start moving towards the career you want for yourself. You might have been thinking about a career

move for weeks, months or even years—the fact that you’re here reading this is a big step, so don’t forget to give yourself credit for being

brave enough to start your journey towards a bigger career!

How long does my application with a firm exist for?

Now that’s a really common question and one very few people understand. Regardless of whether you submit an application directly to a firm

or through an agency your application will remain current for period of 12 months. Any other application made whether for the same position

or a different one may not be recognised. This is why it always best to record what applications have been made by whom and when.

When do I start working on my resume?

Today! Your resume should be what we call a ‘living breathing document’ including all of your latest achievements. Include projects,

experience, secondments and any other career or even personal ambitions you’ve achieved that can often be forgotten about.

Don’t believe the myth that a resume should only be worked on when it’s time to start the job hunt! We suggest you keep your CV on

your desktop, look at it regularly and rather than trying to remember everything you’ve done in one sitting, update as you go!

Will you send my application to all Brisbane firms who work in my area?

No — we refer to this as a ‘scatter-gun’ approach, and it’s a technique we avoid, because it won’t get you the best results! We’re

passionate about finding you the right role within the right firm, not just any role in any firm.

Together with you we will agree on which firms we will approach and rest assured your CV will never be sent anywhere without your consent.

Will you prep me for my interview?

Of course! We’ll not only run you through prep with a member of our team—we’ll give you our interview guide as part of our Candidate

Toolkit, and a bunch of extra tips on preparing for the interview format expected (whether it’s a face to face, panel, telephone, on-line

or behavioural interview).

We think you can never prepare ‘too much’ for an interview and encourage our candidates to do as much research as possible!

If you prefer to come in for a face to face session for your interview preparation, just let us know—we’re only too happy to help!

How important is personal branding? Do I need a LinkedIn profile?

We think personal branding is vital to building an exciting career! Personal branding is all about putting out your message and showing

potential employers your value. LinkedIn is a great way to build and display your personal brand—employers will definitely check out your

profile during their recruitment process.

It’s a good idea to make sure you communicate a consistent message across all your branding material—this includes your CV, your LinkedIn

Profile and the way you come across in your interview!

Don’t forget to set your non-professional social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter) to private—we guarantee your potential employers will be

looking.

What if I see an advertised role I am interested in?

It’s fine—just contact us! We appreciate your interest might sometimes be piqued in an area that we may not have discussed. If this is the

case, please let us know! We don’t want to be overlooking great opportunities perfect for you. Our role is to position you and influence

decision makers to give you the best possible chance at landing your dream role.

We’re proud to ‘think outside the square’ and present all possible options for you to consider—expect some ‘left-field suggestions’!

Are all your roles advertised on Seek.com?

No! Our advertisements on Seek.com represent only just over 10% of all our current vacancies. The majority of our roles are filled with

existing candidates—those who have registered with us in the past. There’s a strong ‘hidden job market’ out there that doesn’t reach job

boards and social media platforms.

If you’re clear with us about your goals and desired next steps, it makes it easier for us to find the perfect role for you!

What if I am registered with other agencies?

It’s not a problem! All we ask for is transparency.

We can’t stress it enough—the legal market is small, especially within the one city. Duplicate submissions impact negatively on your

reputation and affect a firm’s first impression of you. Keeping accurate records of your representatives (self-applications included) is vitally

important.

How many agencies you decide to register with is an entirely personal decision. As you would with any other professional, do your

research and choose the advisor you feel will best represent you. We’re here to support you and help deliver the best result possible.

What's the difference between sending my application directly to a firm vs going through an agency like yours?

If the recruitment process was simply a matter of sending your CV then the answer would be very little. Through our screening and interviews

we take the time to understand who you are, what you want from your career and what you have to offer. We get to know your drivers and

what the best fit for your career looks like. We then work with that to understand which of our clients is best aligned to that. We take

the guessing game out and make sure to provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision. It’s by filling in the

gaps, explaining your career moves and bringing your relevant experience to the fore that we advocate for you. And that’s just to get you an

interview, we then support you through the interview process right through to negotiating your best salary position and beyond.

With some employers offering internal referral programs it makes good sense to pose the question, who will be best to advocate for me and

what’s best for my career?

How can I contact you?
