The Firm
This top-tier firm is recognised for its market-leading Intellectual Property and Technology practice, advising government agencies, major corporates, financial institutions and technology organisations on significant projects and transactions. With a strong focus on AI and emerging technology, the practice works across the regulatory, governance and commercial issues arising as organisations adopt new technologies.
The Timing
The team is looking for a Lawyer or Senior Associate as its AI and technology work continues to develop. Direct IPT experience is highly regarded but not essential. Strong commercial lawyers with excellent drafting skills and an appetite to move into AI and technology are genuinely encouraged to apply.
For a more senior lawyer, there is also scope to mentor and develop the team's junior lawyers.
The Work Itself
AI sits at the heart of this opportunity. Working closely with the firm's national Head of AI, you'll advise on emerging AI regulation and governance, helping clients navigate the legal and commercial questions arising as new technologies are adopted. Alongside the AI work, you'll advise on major technology procurements, outsourcing arrangements, managed services agreements and digital transformation projects across public and private sector clients.
The practice also connects into significant project work across Queensland, creating potential exposure to major transport and Olympics-related matters as those opportunities develop. It's a sophisticated mix of technology, commercial contracting and emerging regulatory work, with the opportunity to build expertise in an area of law that is rapidly evolving.
Where You'll Land
You'll join a close-knit practice with a strong junior cohort and experienced senior lawyers around you. There is genuine scope to contribute beyond your own matters through mentoring and developing junior lawyers, supported by flexible working, 26 weeks' paid parental leave, wellbeing initiatives and structured career development.
Sound Like You?
You'll have 4+ years' PAE from a quality private practice environment, with strong academics and excellent drafting skills. You may already practise in technology or IPT, or you may be a strong commercial contracts lawyer ready to make the move into AI and technology. You'll be commercially minded, intellectually curious and able to turn complex issues into clear, practical advice.
