For the Senior Lawyer Who Wants Government Work With Real Consequence
You have built serious experience across commercial, administrative law or litigation matters. The technical credentials are there and you are comfortable advising at a senior level. But you are ready for a role where the matters carry genuine public interest, the stakeholders are significant and the work shapes how a major Queensland agency operates.
This is a Principal Legal Officer opportunity within a leading Queensland government agency for a senior lawyer ready to step into a substantive advisory and leadership role at PO6 level on an initial six-month contract with the possibility of extension.
The Organisation
This is one of Queensland's most significant public safety agencies, providing safe, modern and responsive services that make a genuine difference to communities across the state. The legal team sits within the policy and legal command and advises across the full spectrum of agency legal matters including litigation, contracts, employment, commercial and administrative law, coronial inquests, personal injury, civil litigation, anti-discrimination and human rights.
The Timing
The team needs a senior lawyer who can step in immediately, provide authoritative advice across complex and sensitive matters and contribute to the broader capability of the legal function. There are two legal officers to supervise and mentor, with direct exposure to ministerial and executive stakeholders from day one.
The Work Itself
Authoritative legal advice across commercial, employment, administrative and litigation matters. Statutory interpretation, briefing notes and correspondence for ministerial and executive stakeholders. Liaison with Crown Law and other legal service providers. Legal research, analysis and risk evaluation across complex and sensitive matters.
Where You'll Land
A dynamic, purpose-driven legal team operating at the heart of a major Queensland public safety agency. A values-driven organisation built around professionalism, ethics and respect, with genuine scope to contribute to legal strategy and capability across the agency.
Sound Like You?
A senior lawyer admitted as a solicitor or barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland with high-level experience in commercial, employment, administrative or litigation matters. Strong advisory, drafting and negotiation skills. Leadership capability and the confidence to supervise and mentor junior lawyers. A current Queensland Practising Certificate is preferred but not essential. Motivated, proactive and comfortable working autonomously under pressure on complex, sensitive and time-critical matters.
