Roles within this team don't come up often. It's a stable practice with leadership well-regarded across the Brisbane market, offering the range, complexity and trajectory that make a litigation career worth building.
The Firm
A leading independent Australian law firm known for the calibre of its client work, the depth of its bench, and a culture that develops its lawyers organically. It acts for many of Australia's largest corporates, financial institutions, listed entities and government clients, consistently sitting in the top tier of the national market.
The Timing
Two well-regarded partners lead the team between them, running a genuine shared-resource model across their practices — covering large-scale commercial litigation, ASIC investigations and prosecutions, royal commissions and statutory inquiries, joint venture and shareholder disputes, and international arbitration. For an incoming lawyer, that means broader exposure than headcount alone would suggest, and development across different work types and client relationships rather than being siloed under one partner.
The Work Itself
Generalist commercial litigation with real depth, acting for top-tier clients on major complex disputes. One matter might be an ASIC investigation or prosecution for a major bank. Another could see you acting for an ASX-listed or international resources client in a multi-party joint venture dispute, or for a Commonwealth or State department in a procurement matter resolved through mediation or arbitration. Another still might be a statutory inquiry, a greenwashing enquiry, or a complex contractual dispute heading to the Supreme, Federal or High Court. You'd be across the full lifecycle, from advice and pleadings through to briefing Counsel and final hearings, with a client base spanning energy and resources, financial services, property and government.
Where You'll Land
The firm is highly regarded for its commitment to wellbeing, gender equality and family care, with 26 weeks paid parental leave, a generous leave policy more broadly, and a culture of access to partners, structured professional development and genuine flexibility. Part-time and return-to-work arrangements are on the table, so if that's relevant for you, please don't self-select out.
Sound Like You?
You'll have 3-6 years PAE in commercial litigation, ideally with exposure to one or more of regulatory/ASIC, competition, commissions and inquiries, or arbitration. You're familiar with Supreme and Federal Court litigation, and your drafting across court documents, affidavits, briefs and evidence is strong. Experience in a top-tier firm is highly favoured. Solid academics matter as well as looking for someone who wants to be coached and developed.
