Run the Matters that Define a Commercial Litigation Career

Senior Associate roles within this team don't come up often. It's a stable practice with leadership well-regarded across the Brisbane market, offering the calibre of work, mentoring and trajectory that make the step up feel like a natural progression rather than a leap.

The Firm
A leading independent Australian law firm known for the calibre of its client work, the depth of its bench, and a culture that develops its lawyers organically. It acts for many of Australia's largest corporates, financial institutions, listed entities and government clients, consistently sitting in the top tier of the national market.

The Timing
Two well-regarded partners lead the team between them, running a genuine shared-resource model across their practices. Between them they cover large-scale commercial litigation, ASIC investigations and prosecutions, royal commissions and statutory inquiries, joint venture and shareholder disputes, and international arbitration. For an incoming SA, that means a real seat at the table on complex work, and the opportunity to step up on matters across two complementary partner practices rather than one.

The Work Itself
Generalist commercial litigation with real depth, acting for top-tier clients on major complex disputes. One matter might be an ASIC investigation or prosecution for a major bank. Another could see you running a multi-party joint venture dispute for an ASX-listed or international resources client, or advising a Commonwealth or State department on a procurement matter resolved through mediation or arbitration. Another still might be a statutory inquiry, a greenwashing enquiry, or a complex contractual dispute heading to the Supreme, Federal or High Court. As an SA, you'd be taking real carriage — running matters, leading strategy, instructing Counsel and managing more junior lawyers across the lifecycle.

Where You'll Land
The leadership style of this team is a genuine differentiator. The partners are known for quality of work and for the way they invest in their people. Mentoring isn't a line in a brochure here — it's how the team has stayed stable for as long as it has. The firm is highly regarded for its commitment to wellbeing, gender equality and family care, with 26 weeks paid parental leave, a generous leave policy more broadly, and genuine flexibility including part-time and return-to-work arrangements. If that's relevant for you, please don't self-select out.

Sound Like You?
You'll have 2-4 years at SA level in commercial litigation, with exposure to one or more of regulatory/ASIC, competition, commissions and inquiries, or arbitration. You're comfortable running your own matters, instructing Counsel and mentoring junior lawyers, with strong drafting across court documents, affidavits, briefs and evidence. A top-tier background is preferred, though strong mid-tier candidates will also be considered. Solid academics matter, but just as important is the appetite to coach those coming through behind you.
