For the Employment Lawyer Who Wants the Work to Actually Matter
You have built solid employment law experience. The technical foundations are there and you are comfortable across complex matters. But you are ready for more than good work, you are ready for work that genuinely matters.
This is an opportunity for an employment lawyer with 3–5 years PAE who is ready for real consequence, genuine autonomy and a culture that supports the way they want to practice.
The Organisation
This is the in-house legal practice of a leading Queensland healthcare union, providing dedicated legal services to union members across the state. With a team of 12 spanning employment, health regulatory, family law, estates and conveyancing, this is a practice with genuine purpose at its core: advocating for the rights and wellbeing of healthcare professionals at every level of the sector.
The Timing
The employment and health regulatory team is active and growing. They are looking for a lawyer who can manage a diverse and intellectually engaging caseload with genuine autonomy, contributing meaningfully from day one across a broad range of complex and consequential matters.
The Work Itself
Show cause processes, conduct and disciplinary matters, health impediments, drug and alcohol matters and discrimination claims extending to the Human Rights Commission. Matters regularly proceeding before the Industrial Relations Commission, Fair Work Australia, the Office of the Health Ombudsman, QCAT and AHPRA. Advising a broad range of union members from senior healthcare executives to more junior members on matters that genuinely shape their careers. Complex, varied and meaningful.
Where You'll Land
A genuinely flat, family-friendly culture with full autonomy to manage your own time. A 37.5-hour working week with no expectation of long days, three days in office and two days from home, five weeks paid annual leave and three additional favour days over the Christmas and New Year period. EBA-governed remuneration with two pay increases per year, paid parental leave and on-site rostered parking. No billable targets. Just the work.
Sound Like You?
An employment lawyer with 3–5 years PAE, ideally with some exposure to health regulatory matters. Experience appearing before or preparing matters for the IRC, Fair Work Australia, QCAT, OHO or AHPRA highly regarded. Strong drafting, advisory and advocacy skills with a genuine interest in acting for individuals and a commitment to client outcomes. Backgrounds from private practice, in-house or a union and member services environment are all considered.
