Our client is the in-house legal practice of a leading healthcare union, providing dedicated legal services to union members across Queensland. With a team of 12 spanning employment, health regulatory, family law, estates and conveyancing, this is a practice with genuine purpose at its core - advocating for the rights and wellbeing of healthcare professionals at every level of the sector.

Your New Role  
Joining the employment and health regulatory team, you will advise a broad range of union members, from senior healthcare executives through to more junior members, on some of the most complex and consequential matters in their careers.

You will manage a diverse and intellectually engaging caseload spanning show cause processes, conduct and disciplinary matters, health impediments, drug and alcohol matters, and discrimination claims extending to the Human Rights Commission. Matters regularly proceed before external bodies including the Industrial Relations Commission, Fair Work Australia, the Office of the Health Ombudsman, QCAT and AHPRA. Any criminal matters arising as a by-product of these instructions are referred externally.

Your Skills Profile
  • 3–5 years' PAE in employment law, ideally with some exposure to health regulatory matters;
  • Experience appearing before or preparing matters for the IRC, Fair Work Australia, QCAT, OHO or AHPRA highly regarded;
  • Strong drafting, advisory and advocacy skills;
  • Background from private practice, in-house or a union/member-services environment;
  • Genuine interest in acting for individuals and a commitment to client outcomes;
  • Collaborative, grounded and comfortable working with autonomy;
