For the Advocate Who Wants Their Work to Matter
You went into law to make a difference. Court work energises you, client advocacy drives you and you do your best work when the outcome genuinely changes someone's life. But the environment you're in may not be reflecting that back.
This is an opportunity for a lawyer with 2+ years PAE in family law, domestic violence, criminal law or related litigation to join one of Queensland's most respected purpose-driven legal services in a role built around real advocacy, meaningful client work and a sustainable career.
The Organisation
Women's Legal Service Queensland is a highly regarded, trauma-informed legal service supporting women impacted by domestic and family violence. Since 2021 the organisation has more than doubled in size, now exceeding 100 staff across metropolitan and regional Queensland. It is known for strong supervision structures, a genuinely collaborative culture and a commitment to keeping good lawyers in the profession for the long term.
The Timing
The organisation is growing and has openings in its Domestic Violence Unit. A permanent position is available on the Gold Coast at the Southport office, with a contract position available across any of the organisation's office locations. They are looking for a lawyer who is ready to contribute meaningfully from day one across a complex and varied caseload.
The Work Itself
Advice, casework and court representation across domestic violence protection orders, related family law and criminal law matters. Advocacy that is real, varied and significant. Complex, sensitive matters managed within a multidisciplinary team that takes supervision and support seriously. No billable targets. No business development. Just the work.
Where You'll Land
A collaborative, purpose-driven environment with flexible working including one to two days from home, subject to court commitments. A 9am start time, structured supervision, additional Christmas and New Year leave and attractive salary packaging options that meaningfully increase your take-home pay.
Sound Like You?
A lawyer with 2+ years PAE in family law, domestic violence, criminal law or related litigation. Demonstrated court advocacy experience or a genuine appetite to develop those skills. Experience working with vulnerable or at-risk clients and the interpersonal capability to build trusted relationships across diverse backgrounds. Experience in a community legal centre, Legal Aid or access-to-justice environment will be highly regarded.
