For the Solicitor Who Wants the Work to Count
You didn't train as a lawyer to spend your days managing volume for its own sake. You wanted to run matters that mattered, sit with clients through the hard conversations, and see a case through to an outcome that actually changes something. If that's slipped out of reach lately, this is a role built to bring it back.
The Organisation
Women's Legal Service Queensland is a trauma-informed legal service supporting women affected by domestic and family violence, child safety issues and financial abuse. It operates a genuinely wrap-around model, legal advice sitting alongside social work and financial abuse prevention teams, so no single lawyer carries a client's whole set of problems alone.
The Timing
WLSQ is looking for a Casework Solicitor to join its advice and casework team at its Southport office on the Gold Coast. With at least two years' PAE in family law and domestic and family violence, you'll be picking up matters that need someone who can move between advice, minor task work, ongoing representation and duty lawyer coverage without losing the thread on risk.
The Work Itself
One morning might be a duty lawyer shift ahead of a DFV protection order hearing. That afternoon, a client on the phone whose safety planning has just changed because her circumstances have. The next day, briefing counsel on a matter that's grown more complex than anyone expected. Risk and safety sit under everything, with a Social Work team a referral away rather than an afterthought.
Where You'll Land
A collaborative, feminist-framework organisation that takes supervision and professional development seriously, with a training budget attached. Flexible working arrangements are genuinely on the table, along with additional parental leave and extra days off over the Christmas and New Year period.
Sound Like You?
You'll need at least 2 years' PAE in family law and domestic and family violence, with child safety or child support experience a plus. You hold (or can obtain) an unrestricted practising certificate, admission to the High Court of Australia, a current Queensland driver's licence and a Blue Card. You are comfortable working with clients in high-stress situations, you know when a problem needs a referral rather than another hour of your time, and you want to do this work inside a service built to support you in it, not burn you out.
