For the Migration Lawyer Who Wants Their Work to Count
You have built genuine technical capability in migration law. The complexity is there, the judgement is developed. But you are ready for an environment where the work carries real weight, the clients genuinely need you and the outcomes matter beyond the transaction.
This is a specialist opportunity within a purpose-driven legal service for an experienced migration lawyer with 4+ years PAE who is ready to apply their technical skills in one of the most meaningful practice contexts available.
The Organisation
Women's Legal Service Queensland is one of the state's most respected purpose-driven legal services, supporting women impacted by domestic and family violence. Since 2021 the organisation has more than doubled in size and established a dedicated Temporary Visa Program to support women on temporary visas navigating the intersection of migration, family law and protection issues. It is known for strong supervision structures, a collaborative culture and a genuine commitment to sustainable legal careers.
The Timing
The Temporary Visa Program is an established and growing specialist practice within the organisation. They are looking for an experienced migration lawyer who can manage complex matters with autonomy, work collaboratively across internal practice areas and deliver holistic outcomes for some of the most vulnerable clients in the legal system.
The Work Itself
Strategic visa advice, family violence provision applications and liaison with the Department of Home Affairs and external stakeholders. Complex migration matters at the intersection of family law and protection issues. Work that is technically demanding, genuinely varied and carried out with real purpose. No billable targets. No business development expectations. Just the work.
Where You'll Land
A collaborative, trauma-informed environment with flexible working including one to two days from home. A 9am start time, structured supervision, additional Christmas and New Year leave and attractive salary packaging options that meaningfully increase your take-home pay.
Sound Like You?
A migration lawyer with 4+ years PAE and demonstrated experience with family violence provisions. Strong knowledge of temporary visa frameworks, sound judgement across complex matters and the interpersonal capability to work sensitively with clients from diverse cultural, linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
