For the Insurance Lawyer Who Wants Real Carriage and a National Platform
You've built 3 or more years in general insurance and you're ready for files of your own, complex work, and a team that backs your development without micromanaging it.
The Firm
A leading independent Australian law firm with a national footprint and a reputation for thinking differently about how legal services are delivered. The firm acts for major insurers, reinsurers, and corporates across a wide range of industries, and sits on the legal panels of Australia's leading general insurers along with a number of local and international players. Recent recognition includes top-tier client choice and industry awards, alongside long-standing recognition for gender equality in the workplace.
The Timing
The Brisbane arm of the national General Insurance practice is growing, and there's room for a lawyer or associate to step in and take real ownership. You'll work alongside a highly regarded team with the kind of partner support that helps you build your practice rather than just keep up with it.
The Work Itself
The focus is property and construction insurance. One matter might involve a high-quantum property recovery on behalf of an insurer. Another could be a first-party indemnity dispute where the coverage question turns on the policy wording. Another still might see you defending a property damage claim through to hearing, briefing counsel, conferencing with witnesses, and preparing the evidence that holds the case together. Across all of it, you'll be drafting advices, court documents, and instructions to experts, with client strategy conversations woven through the work.
Where You'll Land
A warm, welcoming, progressive culture that is genuinely inclusive and supportive. Modern open-plan offices, hybrid working with WFH equipment provided plus a reimbursement allowance for additional setup, free daily breakfast, and regular social events. Reward and recognition, learning and development programs at every level, flexible leave options, and a genuine commitment to wellbeing, pro bono and community work.
Sound Like You?
You'll have a minimum of three years' post-admission experience in general insurance law, with a background in property and construction recoveries and liability defence acting for insurers. You're confident running your own files through court proceedings, and you bring strong technical, analytical, and drafting skills with sharp attention to detail. You're a team player with a genuine interest in defendant insurance work, and any experience mentoring or delegating to juniors will be well regarded.
