Workplace Relations Lawyer | Up to Senior Associate

Location: Brisbane

Worktype: Full Time

For the Employment Lawyer Who Wants to Do the Full Range of the Work

You're doing solid employment law, but you're not sure you're seeing enough of it. You want the disputes and the advisory work, the front-end strategy and the courtroom exposure. You're looking for a team that's genuinely invested in your development.

The Firm
A large national commercial law firm with offices across Australia's major cities. They act for some of Australia's largest public and private companies, as well as all levels of government. The employment practice sits within a broader commercial firm with deep industry reach and strong local and international connections.

The Timing
The Brisbane employment team is compact and well-regarded nationally, led by a senior partner with strong peer recognition in the field. There's an experienced Special Counsel alongside them, which means genuine day-to-day mentorship rather than being thrown in at the deep end. The team is also expanding its workplace health and safety and investigations capabilities, so there's room to shape what this role becomes over time.

The Work Itself
Think of it as employer-side employment law across the full lifecycle of the employment relationship. One week you might be advising a construction sector client on managing an enterprise bargaining round, the next you're running a post-employment restraint matter through to hearing. Discrimination and harassment claims sit alongside compliance advice and organisational change strategy. The client base spans construction, not-for-profit, and social and community sectors, so the context varies and the work isn't repetitive.

Where You'll Land
You'll be joining a team that operates more like a small firm within a large one: close-knit, supportive, and genuinely interested in your progression. The firm backs flexible working arrangements, family-friendly policies, and purchased and career break leave. Partners and staff work from modern offices and the culture is one where professional success and personal wellbeing aren't treated as competing priorities.

Sound Like You?
You'll have a minimum of 2 years' PAE and a solid grounding across the full scope of employment and workplace relations law. WHS exposure is a bonus but not essential. You write well, tailor your advice to your audience, and you take client service seriously. You're a team player who keeps up with the law and wants to develop, and you're ready for a role that will reward that.
