Your New Team
The Constitutional Law Team is a highly skilled group of 11 practitioners who specialise in constitutional and complex public law matters, as well as other
significant issues that do not sit neatly within other practice areas. This variety makes the team one of the most interesting and intellectually challenging practices within Crown Law. The team also supports the Solicitor-General in advising on the most important and complex legal questions for the State.

The team provides strategic advice to the Attorney-General and Queensland government agencies on constitutional issues, statutory interpretation and sensitive matters of public importance. Members of the team regularly instruct the Solicitor-General and the Crown Counsel in High Court proceedings

Recent work has included constitutional and human rights litigation in the High Court, the Queensland Court of Appeal and the Queensland Supreme Court, and advising on duties of excise and freedom of interstate trade and commerce. The team has also assisted agencies in responding to Parliamentary Committee requests, advised on the interaction of State and national energy laws the limits of executive power and proposed legislation.

Your New Role
As Principal Lawyer, you will lead complex and sensitive matters and act as a trusted adviser to the Attorney-General and senior decision-makers across government. You will combine technical excellence in constitutional law with strong leadership, providing guidance and supervision to lawyers within the team and contributing to Crown Law's broader strategic priorities.
This position offers the rare opportunity to work on matters of fundamental importance to the State, while shaping the capability and direction of one of
Queensland's most specialised public law practices.

Your Skills Profile

  • Eligibility to practice as a legal practitioner in Australia.
  • At least 10+ years, in constitutional or complex public law.
  • A demonstrated record of managing complex litigation and advising at the highest levels of government.
  • Experience mentoring, supervising and developing junior lawyers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and practical advice on complex constitutional issues.
  • Strong judgement, analytical ability and a collaborative approach to solving sensitive issues.
  • Motivation to contribute to matters of fundamental importance to the State of Queensland and to shape the next generation of public law specialists.
